Alpress project, an early introduction

It has been slightly quiet here recently. We were working. Now it’s time to break the silence.

Almonit next project, codename “Alpress”, is a self-governing publication platform. It’s like a decentralized Medium, managed by the users for the users.

Alpress is going to be managed by a DAO (“by the users for the users”), and will have a token used for cheaper payments in the system (but don’t worry, you could still pay with ETH or DAI).

Alpress is planned to be release in Q1 2021. But already now, before the release, we want to start tracking contributions. That way, when Alpress is launched we’ll know how many tokens each contributors deserves.

If you’re an Alpress contributor, this post is for you. If you’re not a contributor, well, want to become a one? See contact details.

Testnet Alpress DAO

Did you ever do a community project? Many people contributing along the way, till at some point you realize those contributions should be documented. That way if the project earns money, you know who deserves how much.

To do this documentation we created a Testnet Alpress DAO in Rinkeby using DAOstack tools.

Beginning now and continuing all the way till the launch of the Alpress DAO, compensation requests will be done using the Testnet Alpress DAO.

The DAO is on Rinkeby network and is accessible here.

Testnet Alpress DAO tokenomy

Here are some dry details about the token at this stage.

Compensation amounts

We estimate a monthly compensation of 6000$ USD for 40 hours per week. This is a low estimate, well within the boundaries of the last Stack Overflow global salaries survey.

However, the project in the pre-launch stage has an inherent risk since the token is not launched yet and its price is unknown. Hence we add a 50% risk bonus for all compensations made in the pre-launch phase. This brings the monthly compensation amount in the pre-launch phase to 9,000$ per month for 40 weekly hours of work.

The work on Alpress began on the 1st of March 2020, while the DAO is planned to be launched in January 2021. Hence the compensation for those who contributed full time in the whole pre-launch phase would stand at 90,000 nominal USD or 9,000,000 ALP tokens. This figure is based on 10 months of contribution.

So how much should I ask?

The best option is to calculate the hours you contributed and follow the estimate above. But we know it’s not always an easy estimate to do, and we know some people will be an exception. In this case, come and talk to us, better before you make a compensation request to the DAO.

Votings

Compensation requests will be approved by votings. In DAOstack voting is done by holders of REP token. REP token is given in DAOstack protocols by special DAO proposals.

In the testnet phase of Alpress DAO voting is done by the Almonit core team members. Each member has an equal vote. The compensation mentioned here is only for utility tokens in the system, not for REP tokens to vote in the system.

Extending the DAO to more members of the ecosphere and eventually passing its control to the community is planned once the mainnet DAO is launched.

Compensation protocol

The Testnet Alpress DAO is launched in September 2020, and compensation will be done once a month beginning from the launch. Compensation can be asked only for past work. To keep things simple, we do not put deadlines on when to make compensation requests for each month.

For work done prior to September 2020, compensation requests could be made already during September 2020.

Disclaimer: the Testnet Alpress DAO and proposals are not binding in any way. They are merely a declaration of intent of how many tokens existing contributors get when the system is launched. These contributions and tokens carry an extra risk since Alpress tokens do not have any value at the moment and do not even exist yet.

What is written above are guidelines for the Alpress DAO in the prelaunch DAO, not hard rules. If you feel you need to be an exception, please contact us.
